Question:
I have been thinking about taking up golf. Any advice for getting started?

I just started a couple years ago. The best way to get started is to go to a golf specialty store and have them analyze your swing (assuming you have been hitting the driving range) and then they can recco a moderately priced starter club set which will be more forgiving. I started by taking lessons at my local driving range using their clubs which was a great way to develop my swing, however amateurish it is!

I would say borrow someone's to get a feel if you're just getting started. If you get hooked, then Debbie's advice is great.

I recently started taking golf lessons since the most golf experience I have is hitting a couple of balls at the driving range during the warmer months. It was a great way for me to learn a solid golf swing before I had the opportunity to pick up bad habits. I'd definitely suggest signing up for lessons before you start playing on a course. I had a package that allowed me five one-on-one sessions with a professional and it really gave me the confidence I needed to try out my new skills on the course.
